A question that always seems to come up when I’m meeting or talking with couples is “Why do you like shooting weddings?”

It’s not that I like shooting them, I love shooting them! I know that sounds a little on the corny side :) Photography in general is something that I just really love to do. I’ve done lots of other type of photography work, but to be completely honest - wedding photography is the most rewarding. I enjoy getting to know couples and working with them to make the photography on their special day, well… really special! I’ve done plenty of weddings in the past when I was just starting out where I didn’t meet the bride and groom prior to the wedding day. I always just showed up and was like, “Hi, my name is Andrew and I’m going to photograph your wedding.” How totally uncomfortable is that? It’s like inviting a stranger into your house and letting him take pictures of family’s Christmas dinner.

If you think about it, your photographer out of all the vendors at your wedding, will be someone that you most often will talk with and work with well before and well after the wedding is over.  It’s very important to establish a good working relationship.  For me that’s part of the fun of shooting weddings…  Getting to know and work with a bunch of awesome people and couples that more often than not end up feeling more like “friends” rather than just clients that have hired me to provide them with photographs.

That’s why I love shooting weddings!

So I was watching Oprah the other day… Well, my wife was watching (and forced me to also watch) the show. Oprah was interviewing a panel of folks including the author of the new book / movie called ‘The Secret’. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s almost like a documentary type of thing that you’d see on the Discovery or Science channel. It also has a kind of Da Vinci codesque feel to the whole thing which pulls you in and makes you at least interested in what they are saying.

The gist of ‘The Secret’ is an explanation of the Laws of Attraction and how they may play an important role in what type of life experience that you live.

Instead of me actually trying to explain it, you can watch the whole Oprah show on YouTube, or head on over to TheSecret.tv for more information.

It’s always an exciting time for me in January.  The holidays are over and I generally start itching to start photographing again.  Usually by the time December rolls around I have shot, processed, and delivered somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000+ photographs…  That’s a lot of photographs no matter how you look at it!  It’s always funny around Christmas because I end up shooting all of my family photographs with my Canon point and shoot!  As a photographer; family and friends are always expecting me to show up with my huge camera outfit parties and get togethers!  It’s always funny when I show up and pull out my little P&S.

However, right now I’m gearing up to start doing a bunch of engagement sessions and a few weddings to kick the year off.  I have a pretty full schedule already, so anybody that’s reading this and is hoping to book my services, please do contact me soon!  Your date may not be available if you wait!

Here’s to a fun and awesome 2007!  For all the brides and grooms that I will be working with this year - I can’t wait.

I often get asked why sometimes photographs that are being viewed on the web don’t look “right” to some people on their computers…
Color management in professional photography is a very important step in the digital post process that occurs after your photographs are taken.

John Andrews Photography uses both MAC and PC systems that are calibrated regularly with a hardware calibration device.  This calibration device calibrates the output
of our studio editing station displays to be consistent and accurate.  What does that mean?  It ensures that the color in the photographs that we see on our monitors
is accurate.  However, since we have no control over the computer that clients use to view the photographs, the color on your end may be slightly different.
Rest assured that any prints or albums that you receive will look awesome, as our color management process is very well refined all the way through printing at our
lab!

That being said, there are some things that you can do on your end to adjust your computer display to more accurately display color in general.

For those of you that use a MAC, Apple has some great information on color management here.
For those of you that use a PC, Microsoft has additional information here.

I have been wanting to post more “personal” type posts that are not necessarily related to photography or my John Andrews Photography company… So as to not pollute the waters on this blog, I’ve created another blog over at http://personal.johnandrewsphotography.com that I will post to from time to time as well!
